The
class was recently charged with reading the short story The Secret Life of
Walter Mitty. I found it a humorous tale and the idea of a bit more fantasy
and imagination in my life sounded intriguing to say the least. So, I started
to engage in a bit more flights of fancy. It has been fun. All of a sudden, a
simple walk to class transforms into a quest to recover the Holy Grail and a
ride up the elevator becomes a special mission of espionage. The world begins
to change around you and then mundane seems less drab and gloomy. It is like
most of the world sees everyday like they are Dorothy in the beginning of The
Wizard of Oz and everything is shrouded in that filthy, brownish sepia
color. The world goes by and we’re all stuck on a farm in Kansas, and yet, with
the smallest drop of imagination, we can be transported to colorful world full
of magic and joy. It is a great way to experience life. I will admit, however,
that it is also easier to get lost in this world and to lose track of a great
deal of time. I have often sometimes found myself drifting away during some
conversations or during a class lecture. These are the downsides to trying this
world view. However, if you only do it in moderation, then everything should be
just fine. The world is full of magic and wonder, you just have to know where
to find it.
In my time as a college student I have learned many things from many classes, but the most important thing that I have learned is: Bill Gates hates me! Well, at least Microsoft Word does, but I’m pretty sure Bill Gates had something to do with that. The reasons I believe this start when I first open the Microsoft Word program and what do I behold? A default setting of Calibri font and the size is set to 11 ! Why? This is absurdity of the highest order and I refuse to continue to tolerate the madness. I have only used Times New Roman with size 12 font and every person I know uses this setting and every teacher/professor/instructor I have ever had has demanded I use this font set-up. However, Bill Gates has yet to rectify this gross injustice and therefore I can only conclude that he must hate me. This is not the only grievance forced upon me by the...
