One of the most interesting things that I think the class
has talked about is tickle and how important it is to our development. It is
something that I have never really thought about before. I know that I have been
tickled, mostly by my parents when I was a child, but I never once thought that
they might have been an important moment in my relationships. I had always
presumed that most of my familial relations were strong because they are the ones
who fed, clothed, and protected me as a child, and not because they were the
first people that tickled me. I forgot how important tickle, and more broadly
play, is for human development. This realization has helped since reading it. No,
I am not going around trying to tickle people in order to gain friends, but I
have been more friendly and fun around my current friends. It has led to
stronger relationships and more bondedness between us. Fun is important part of
friendship. I know that many times conversations with my friends turn into us
simply remembering fun times that we have had. We don’t necessarily have to
even have had to do any thing recently, but just reminiscing about fun times
together builds stronger relationships. I guess, the point of this blog is to express
the importance of having fun with the people in your life; this will lead to better
relationships. You will then want to hangout together more leading to fun,
leading to stronger relationships. It is an upwards cycle of fun and
friendship.
The time has come for my final story involving uncontrollable laughter. My brother, my friend Caleb, my other friend Madeline, and I were playing a board game called Fortune Seeker one night my senior year of high school. It was late at night (I want to say about two in the morning) and everything was already funnier than it would normally be during the day. I’m not sure why, but if something is funny, then it is ten times funnier when you’re extremely tired. Anyways, there is one mechanic of the board game called hostile takeover. This means that the player who gets this can take whatever they want from another player for a small price. This happened a lot to Madeline that night. Walter, Caleb, and I just kept taking all of her stuff. Needless to say, she was not that happy by the end of the game. When the game had finished (I believe Walter ended up winning that night), Madeline went on quite a long rant about how we stole all of her stuff and destroyed all hope she had of winning....
I absolutely agree with everything you've said. You expressed it so well. I thought the study about tickling was fascinating, its such a simple thing most of us experience at such a young age, to look at it through an academic lens is fascinating. It definitely helps you reflect on how the simple memories or reminiscing with friends can bring you closer together.
